Why is SHIB no longer available to buy or swap for U.S. customers?

Learn why Shiba Inu (SHIB) purchases are restricted for U.S. users and what you can still do with your tokens.

As of May 10, 2023, U.S. customers are no longer able to buy or swap SHIB (Shiba Inu) through RockWallet.

This decision was made to ensure full compliance with U.S. cryptocurrency laws and regulations.

What are the regulatory concerns related to SHIB?

The primary concerns relate to how SHIB is classified under U.S. regulations.
Because SHIB is considered a meme-based cryptocurrency, its status and oversight requirements differ from more established digital assets.

Can U.S. customers still hold SHIB in RockWallet?

Yes. U.S. customers can continue to:

  • Store existing SHIB

  • Send SHIB to other wallets

  • Receive SHIB from external wallets

However, ‘Buy’ and ‘Swap’ functions for SHIB are currently disabled for U.S. users.

Are other cryptocurrencies affected by similar restrictions?

At this time, no other cryptocurrencies are affected by the same regulatory concerns as SHIB in RockWallet.
However, the regulatory landscape is evolving, and future changes may occur depending on jurisdictional requirements.

Will SHIB become available again in the future?

Possibly. SHIB could return for U.S. customers if regulatory conditions change or if new compliance measures allow RockWallet to safely re-enable the asset.
There is no set timeline for when or if SHIB will become available to buy or swap again.
